How to Start a Tetris Practice Routine

Learn about ways to create a Tetris practice routine that work best for you, while also helping you pursue your goals.

Tetris is known for being a game that’s easy to pick up and hard to master. When it comes to getting better at Tetris, practice is hands-down the best method. But what kind of practice do you need to become a Tetris pro, and how often should you practice?

These are questions that tend to come up a lot in the Tetris community, and they can be tricky to answer. After all, no two Tetris players will have the same practice routine. So, how do you start a Tetris practice routine that works best for you? Well, follow some of these tips!

Work Within Your Daily Schedule

Be sure to create a Tetris practice schedule that works well with your day-to-day routine.

We all have busy lives, from work and school to caring for our families. In order to create a Tetris practice routine that you can stick with, you’ll need to work with your established schedule.

Often the best way to do this is by sitting down and mapping out what your day-to-day tasks include. Once you know where to be and when, you can begin to incorporate your daily Tetris practice. Even if you only have 15 minutes of free time per day, you can use that 15 minutes to improve at Tetris. After all, some practice is better than no practice at all.

Create a Tetris Calendar

Stay on top of your Tetris practice routine by creating a calendar, or by adding Tetris to your preexisting calendar.

Another way to stay on top of your Tetris practice routine is to create a calendar. There are many ways in which you can create a calendar. For those who prefer writing things out, purchasing a desk calendar can be a great way to track when your next Tetris practice session will be.

If you’re more technologically inclined, you can create a calendar on your mobile phone, tablet, or your computer using a digital planner such as Google Calendar or Asana. Whichever one you choose, having a calendar will help you stay on top of your Tetris practice routine.

Put Essentials Within Easy Reach

Your Tetris practice routine should be fun, so be sure you’re comfortable and have everything you might need within reach.

Next, it’s important to have everything ready to go for your Tetris practice session beforehand. Where will you practice? What do you need in order to practice comfortably? Make sure you have what you need before you begin.

For example, if you prefer playing Tetris on our website, have the page bookmarked or loaded up on your computer before practice time. Depending on how long you plan to practice, maybe pour yourself a glass of water and bake yourself some Tetris cookies to snack on while you practice. Also, make sure you’re comfortable so that you can fully focus on the task at hand.

Plan Things Out

In order to improve your Tetris game, be sure to plan out what you want to practice. For example, mastering the T-Spin!

An important question to ask is what do you want to practice? Are you looking to get better at T-Spin techniques, or would you rather focus on garbage management? Your Tetris practice routine will be completely unique to you. Whether you’re a beginner or a long-time pro, try to find areas where you want to improve.

Even if improvement simply means being faster than your opponent, the more you practice, the better you’ll become. Try to set goals for yourself. Do you want to participate in a Tetris tournament? Then find out more about the tournament, and practice to get ready.

For example, the Classic Tetris World Championship pits players against one another in a heated competition that uses the Tetris NES version. What better way to practice than by dedicating time each day to playing Tetris on the NES right from the comfort of your own home? In the end, map things out and then hone your skills!

Finally… Commit

With your Tetris practice routine in place, all that’s left is to stick to it and watch your skills improve!

Finally, the Tetrimino that ties your Tetris practice stack together (so to speak) is commitment. In order to make your Tetris practice session work, you need to be willing to commit. As long as you set aside the time and give yourself all the tools needed to practice, the only thing left standing in your way is you.

Finding the motivation to keep up with a daily practice routine can be hard at first, but just like joining the gym and training your body, it’ll feel natural as you invest more time. The best part about having a Tetris practice routine is that playing Tetris is fun. You already love Tetris, so committing to a routine is far easier than you think. Just give it a try and watch your skills blossom!
